Hello, this is Lee, host of Artists and Hackers. We’re working on a whole season of episodes coming out this spring, but in the meantime, I wanted to let you know about a live podcast recording event we’re doing later this month. we’ve teamed up with the New Media Caucus, an international non-profit association that supports the development and understanding of new media art. They work with artists, designers, practitioners, historians, theorists, educators, students, and scholars - so a perfect partnership with our show.
The event we’re hosting is called New Rules: Conversations with New Media Artists, and it’s happening in New York City on Friday February 17th from 7:30pm - 9pm. I’ll be speaking live and recording a special episode with the New Media Artists KT Duffy, Rashin Fahandej, Sue Huang, and Chelsea Thompto about their work as new media artists.
The event is free and open to the public, and it will be followed by an informal dinner. You can RSVP to attend on our website, via a link from our Instagram artistsandhackers, through our newsletter if you’re one of our email newsletter subscribers, or from the New Media Caucus website. We’re asking you to please RSVP by Saturday the 11th and we’ll send you the exact location just over the river into Queens, and it’s being held in an accessible art space. We hope to see you there.
New Rules is made possible with funding from the National Endowment for Arts.
Thanks

She is wearing a black apron. KT Duffy looks to the left, in a black and white shot, wearing glasses, jewelry. Chelsea is smiling radiantly at the camera.
Rashin Fahandej is an Iranian-American futurist, immersive storyteller, and cultural activist. Fahandej’s artistic initiatives are multiyear experimental laboratories for collective radical reimaginations of social systems, using counter-narratives of care and community co-creation to design equitable futures. Her projects center on marginalized voices and the role of media, technology, and public collaboration in generating emotional connections to drive social change.
Sue Huang is a new media and installation artist whose work addresses collective experience. Her current projects explore ecological intimacies, human/nonhuman relations, and speculative futures.
KT Duffy is a new media artist and educator from Chicago’s southwest side. They received their MFA in Interdisciplinary Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2014 and are currently an Assistant Professor of Art and Technology at Northeastern Illinois University. Working in the space between labor and automation, Duffy conjures entities into existence via code-based processes and digital fabrication.
Chelsea Thompto is a transdisciplinary artist and educator working at the intersections of art, trans studies, and technology. She lives and works in the Bay Area where she is an Assistant Professor of Digital Media Art at CADRE in the Department of Art and Art History at San José State University
